Analogies Between Spiritual Life and a Tree
Here are some analogies that can be used to describe how we feel about our lives at different times. Remember as you read this that every season and every phase is valid and valuable--some are just more glamorous than others!
To start growing, a seed has to get down in the dirt, unseen, and it seems like nothing is happening.
Growth takes time; fruit takes more time.
Pruning cuts, but it makes you more fruitful.
A grown tree provides fruit, shade, and a home for many creature. So the fruitful Christian serves and sustains others.
A tree without good roots is about to be blown over. We can't survive if we are only on the surface.
A tree can't get the bugs off itself; we need each other.
A tree can't survive without water and lots of sunlight. We need the Holy Spirit (rivers of living water) and the light of God's word.
Winter comes every year. It's a very important time for the tree and a lot is happening on the inside, but it isn't time for bearing fruit.
Sometimes all of our leaves fall off--everything we are accustomed to and perhaps even have been proud of. Autumn is a natural part of life. God has a plan, and spring wil come again.
Fruitfulness and lots of heat go together.
Remember, "...it has not yet been revealed what we shall be..." God has a lifelong plan for you, and it will be glorious.
